Do you know that feeling where you’re really craving your favorite dessert, and you feel like you could eat heaps of it? But when you actually do satisfy that want, you’re like “oh gosh, why did I do that?”. Well, regardless of whether your answer is a yes or a no, let’s talk about salt and sugar and why too much of either makes the other less… well, less.
Think about a time in your life when you were at the top of your Ferris Wheel - you were livin’ the dream. Now let’s contextualize - how were you feeling prior to that time? Were things ok, or were times tough? You can also try the opposite, where you were at the bottom of the wheel, and try to think about what was happening around that time.
I had a couple of instances like this. Let’s talk about both examples:
At the top of the Ferris wheel: I had just finished a load of work for school, and it felt so so good to be done. Prior to this though, of course, I was stressed out about my five tests and three projects that were all due on the same day.
At a bad point in life: I had an assignment list that went on for literally two whole pages, and I was stressed out of my mind. For two to three weeks before this, I had rather minimal/easy homework, so I was pretty much “chillin’”. It was the change in the amount of work that I had to do that made that time so intense.
That’s what I’m talking about.
I was talking to someone today, and he asked how I was doing.
“I’m ok,” I said. “It’s just an off week, you know?”
“Yes, I understand. That must happen though, right? Without the salt, how will we know the sweetness of the sugar?” He replied.
That’s where the a-ha! moment came from. I’m not sure how he came up with the analogy like that, but hey, it inspired this article, didn’t it? :)
Remember that too much of anything can create a problem of abundance. It can make us ungrateful about that which we already have, which is where the balance comes in.
If you’re in a tough time right now, let me tell you something: it’s ok. Truly, it is. Usually, whatever is happening now is only happening so that we have a better feeling when it all goes away. Even if your favorite sweet is the same as always, it will be so much purer and wholesome because you hadn’t tasted it in a long while.
If you’re doing well: I’m happy for you! Enjoy it while it lasts and remember equilibrium - life will push you back or push you forward in order to regain that balance. But don’t let that change anything because you always have your favorite dessert at the end of the day.
Here’s to the salts and sugars of life <3
It is a great message and is truly something that everyone needs to listen, understand and implement for a happy life. Great going. Wish you all the very best :).
