Losing A Win
To all my Cobra Kai fans out there, keep reading because you – especially – are going to enjoy this.
Who are you? What do you believe in? What do you love to do? Will you do “whatever it takes” to achieve your dreams? Even if that means going against your most important principles?
We often hear people saying, “Whatever you do, do it the right way.” It’s the same thing here.
Think about it like this: you wanted to prove to your parents that you can get a 4.0 all throughout high school to the point that you cheat on half your assignments. Is this doing the right thing? Or you spread false rumors about someone you envy so that they can become vulnerable, and you can take their spot. Is this doing the right thing?
What is the right thing? And what is the difference between doing what you love and doing what you love the right way?
Let’s ask Mr. Miyagi: “Never put passion in front of principle. Even if you win, you lose.”
What does this mean? Well, good question 😊 Remember that feeling good at the moment about what you’re doing doesn’t mean that that feeling is going to last forever. As in, if you’re cheating or gossiping right now, although it may satisfy your needs now, once you really achieve what it is you wanted, you won’t feel as good as you thought you would. In fact, you will feel worse.
By this, you lose even though you won, and you achieved your dreams. Because that feeling of achievement is overcome by feelings of guilt, sadness, confusion, anger, and more.
It’s important to do what you love, of course. It’s anyone and everyone’s responsibility to live for what they enjoy and do what they believe is right. But it’s just as crucial - if not more - to remember that doing what you love should not come at the cost of your long-term happiness (or others’) or what you believe.
Be passionate, but don’t forget your principles. Then you really do win, and I believe that you will.
Thanks for reading, friend! Do what you love and do it right - it’s the recipe for a great life and an amazing you. Even more amazing than you already are. Also, thank you, Mom, for taking me to six different cities just to write this article <3
