recently, i’ve noticed i’ve been telling my friends that it doesn’t take a lot to make me happy. a simple text checking in, a picture of the sunset, an instagram reel or tiktok about matcha, or playing pitbull whenever i’m around — such little acts can make all the difference in my mood.
having this kind of outlook — that the little things can bring me so much joy — is so healthy because being happy and fulfilled and content is so vital to literally everything in our lives. i’m sure you’ve heard people say to always do what makes you happy, especially try to do one thing a day that makes you happy, but sometimes we just don’t prioritize doing so because of other commitments and feelings we are having.
but like i said, it really doesn’t take a lot to make me happy. so how come, some days, i still don’t feel super content with how my day went or just in general how i’m feeling? well… priorities!
of course, i’m not making an effort to give myself that small thing for just 5-10 minutes of my day that can completely turn around a bad day or week. it’s so important that i build this habit because those days can (and do and have) turn into slumps, which can in turn affect other aspects of my life (also do and have).
so, what am i asking you to do? i’ll keep this short and sweet because i know we’re approaching the end of the school year — finals, shorter attention spans, and negative social battery (or not?). here’s what i want you to do this week, in list form:
identity 4-5 of your little things
write them down on a sticky note or on your phone and put them where you will see them every day (like a bathroom mirror, laptop, home screen, etc.)
make an effort to do at least one of those things a day!!
bonus: do this with one of your friends, and do it for the other person. for me, for example, my friend could send me a picture of the sunset, and i could do something that is on their list.
i think this week’s polish is so simple and so easy but something that genuinely can change our lives so much if we actually prioritize doing it. remember: there’s always time — you just have to make it.
as one of my best friends, frank, says all the time: “life is as beautiful as you make it, so make it beautiful.”
cheers, and until next time, so much love!
